The MFAI has a long tradition of bringing
out a quarterly scientific and technical publication. This publication appeared
under the name of "Transactions of the MFAI" for the period 1989-2003.
In view of the increase in scope of the activities of the MFAI over the years and
to encompass other surface finishing technologies, the quarterly publication
was renamed INDIAN SURFACE FINISHING with the first issue of
the year 2004. INDIAN SURFACE FINISHING has a current circulation
of 1000 and is read in over 35 countries.

Aims and Scope of INDIAN SURFACE FINISHING: This publication aims at highlighting scientific research, technical developments
and other information relevant to the surface finishing industry, particularly
electroplating, electroless plating, anodizing, phosphating, electrophoretic
lacquering, conversion coatings, powder coating, painting, physical and chemical
vapour deposition techniques, chemical and mechanical plating and related forms
of surface finishing for decorative and technical properties. Besides, focus
will also be on equipment, analytical aspects and effluent treatment. The publication
aims at providing information having practical relevance in the above fields,
as a large readership exists among job-shops and ancillary industries.
Neither the Editorial Board nor the MFAI is responsible
for the contents and views expressed in this journal. The respective authors

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS
INDIAN SURFACE FINISHING welcomes contributions relevant to both applied and
basic aspects of surface finishing, including electroplating, electroless plating,
plating on plastics, electropolishing, electrophoretic lacquering, electroforming,
physical and chemical vapour deposition techniques, powder coating, painting,
microgalvanotechniques, nanotechnology, pre- and post-treatment techniques,
analytical aspects, recovery processes and effluent minimization and treatment.
The Editors will consider papers for publication from
anywhere in the world, based on originality, their immediate or future impact
on surface finishing processes, and their contribution to the advancement of
surface finishing science and technology. Theoretical papers will be judged
based on the novelty of the approach and their potential impact and ability
to predict and elucidate experimental observations. Submission of papers dealing
with routine aspects will be discouraged.
Three copies of the manuscript, along with illustrations,
may be sent to the Chief Editor or to any Editor on the Editorial Board. No
page charges are levied by the journal.
Contributions are classified as Research Papers, Communications,
Mini-Reviews and Reviews. Research Papers should be a record of original research
and should not normally exceed 6000 words in length. Communications should be
short accounts of research of significance and bearing urgency. They should
not exceed a total of 8 manuscript pages, including tables and figures. An accompanying
letter should justify inclusion as a Communication. Please adhere to the guidelines
while preparing manuscripts to extensive editing and delay. Mini-Reviews and
Reviews are normally invited by the Editors. Unsolicited review articles of
up to 3500 to 6000 words, respectively, including the most recent literature
survey, are welcome. Authors desirous of writing reviews may please send a brief
outline to one of the Editors on the Editorial Board before the manuscript is
drafted.
Only work not previously published or submitted for publication
elsewhere will be accepted. Include a statement in the cover letter accompanying
the manuscript, signed by all the authors, that the contents have not been published
elsewhere and the paper is not being submitted elsewhere. If any tables or illustrations
have been published elsewhere, the editorial office must be informed so that
permission to reproduce can be obtained from the original publishers. All multi-authored
manuscripts must contain a letter of submission, signed by all the named authors,
signifying that they were contributors to the work described and that they agree
to the paper being submitted for consideration for publication. The author for
correspondence may please be specified.
Refereeing: All contributions are studied by referees,
whose names are not normally disclosed to the authors. Authors are solely responsible
for the factual accuracy of their papers. You may submit up to four names of
individuals you consider suitable to review your manuscript. The final decision
is left to the Chief Editor’s discretion. It would not be appropriate to nominate
individuals who have had any input into the manuscript submitted or any recent
collaboration with the authors or who are from the same institution. When revisions
are requested by the Chief Editor, please submit two complete copies of the
revised manuscript and one copy of the original version.
Preparation of Manuscript: Research Papers should contain
Abstract (less than 300 words), Introduction, Materials and Methods, Theoretical
Aspects (optional), Results, Discussion, and Conclusions (optional), Acknowledgements
(optional), Nomenclature (optional) and References. Communications should contain
Abstract (less than 100 words), brief Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results
and Discussion, Acknowledgements (optional) and References. Mini-Reviews and
Reviews should contain an Abstract (less than 100 words and 300 words, respectively),
brief Introduction, appropriate sub-sections for various topics, Conclusions,
Future Trends or Perspectives, Acknowldegements and References. For all types
of manuscripts, 3-6 Key Words or phrases that best characterize the manuscript
should be provided following the Abstract. The title should be specific, informative
and short. Acknowledgements should be brief and for special assistance only,
not for providing inspiration and routine facilities and so on. Units, abbreviations
and nomenclature must be as recommended by IUPAC. For more details, visit the
website http://www.chem.qmw.ac.uk.
