About Metal Finishers’ Association of India

Metal Finishers' Association of India, popularly known as MFAI, was established as a registered body in 1973 by a group of dedicated electroplaters in Mumbai, then called Bombay. In the last 34 years, the association has steadily grown and today, enjoys the status as the premier professional body of electroplaters and metal finishers of the country, with a membership of over 800, representing research and academic institutions and the industry.

Objectives

The association has many objectives, the notable among these are:
1.
To provide a common forum for metal finishers, industrialists, designers, and professionals to meet and foster the advancement of surface engineering, in particular of plating science and technology, in our country.
2.
To promote activities of interest to the members, activities such as holding of seminars/symposia, technical talks, intensive courses, industrial visits etc.
3.
To disseminate scientific and technical information, particularly relating to plating and metal finishing technology, for the benefit of members.
4.
To have a continuous interaction with Indian Standards Institute to upgrade and establish standards related to electroplating and metal finishing industry.
5.
To be in liaison with Government agencies to put viewpoints of our industry to the Government.
6.
To collaborate with other professional bodies (in India and Abroad) pursuing similar aims and objectives.

The association has been vigorously pursuing these objectives and has played a greater role in providing a National Forum to country's metal finishing community for the exchange of information and dissemination of knowledge for rapid development of Plating and Metal Finishing Technology in our country. The association represents India on International Union for Surface Finishing (IUSF).

The association has organised over 340 technical meetings on a wide variety of technical and management topics of interest to the members. And 36 symposia/seminars have been organised in the last 34 years. The association, with the support of IUSF, had organised the First International Congress on "Electroplating and Metal Finishing" in India during January 1997 at Mumbai. This was the First International Meet on this topic held in our country in which eminent experts from all over the world had participated. The Congress was given the status of the REGIONAL INTERFINISH by IUSF. As a sequel to this, Second International Conference and Exhibition on " Electroplating and Metal Finishing, Asia Interfinish - 2002" was organised during Nov. 19-21, 2002 at Hotel Taj Palace, New Delhi.

ISF - 2006 Conference and Exhibition, a mega event was held on "2nd – 4th Feb. 2006" at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai. The conference was a comprehensive coverage on the latest developments in the electroplating and metal finishing as well as the related technologies.
ISF - 2006 provided direct contact between manufacturers, equipment suppliers, researchers, application engineers and end - users. It provided excellent opportunities to expand one's business contacts and network.

In order to meet demand of trained manpower of our industry, the association, has started a ONE WEEK Certificate Course in Electroplating and Metal Finishing. Click Here for further details.
The course content has been devised by the experts; it gives equal weightage to theory and practical sessions. The emphasis is given on imparting technical skills for productivity, quality control, cost control, and troubleshooting as well as effective supervision on the shop floor. Sixteen batches of around 20 participants each have already passed out successfully and the training of the next batch is now on.
The association has thus been playing an increasingly important role in the growth of metal finishing industry in the country. It would not have been possible to achieve these objectives but for the active and enthusiastic response not only of its members but also of the generous and progressive minded institutions and organisations which have been extending their full support (including financial) and co - operation in all these activities.
